Welcome to Curbanas!

Category:Champaign Urbana Community,Events around Champaign Urbana Tags :

In just a few days you will be able to enjoy a bit more outdoor dining space right in front of two downtown Urbana eateries. Early this morning, Urbana crews were arrembling the “parklet” kits which have been called CURBANAS–cool moniker!

The first two (will there be more?) are in front of Cafeteria and Co and Crane Alley, both on Main in downtown Urbana. They are not that wide (one of the crew was wondering outloud this am if you could even seat 4 people at a table), and they are RIGHT on the street. Not sure how this will work when a truck whizzes by during dining hours.

Oh well–great idea and a great name.

So—when will they come (if at all) to Downtown Champaign or Campustown?

New Hyatt Place in Downtown Champaign

Category:Events around Champaign Urbana,Uncategorized Tags :

Well for quite some time–seems like forever–the corner of Neil and Church was a burned out building and a hole in the ground. There was speculation of what would go in that spot. News came out two years ago that a Hyatt Place would be built in downtown Champaign and still it was hard to imagine. For those who remember the downtown Champaign malaise 20 years ago–those folks thought it a miracle.

Now we are poised for the opening of the Champaign Hyatt Place and even more change will come to the downtown Champaign scene. Furniture is being unloaded, the swimming pool is done, they are hiring and it is expected to fill for U of I graduation weekend. Here are some pics:
